Peter Cousens

With a degree in Dramatic Arts from NIDA, Peter Cousens is one of Australia’s most outstanding musical theatre performers and he has been successful as an actor, on stage and on television; a cabaret artist; performing at multi-national corporate functions; as a commercial and television presenter and as a recording artist.

In 1998 Peter returned to Australia to play Gaylord Ravenal in Showboat after 12 months playing the role of the Phantom in the original production on London’s West End of Phantom of the Opera. His previous starring roles include Tony in West Side Story; Chris in Miss Saigon; Raoul in the Australian production of Phantom of the Opera; Alex in Aspects of Love; and Marius in Les Miserables and more recently in Eureka the Musical. Peter has featured with the Australian Opera and with all the major state theatre companies around Australia, most recently in Showstoppers with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House.

Peter’s successful solo albums include Corner Of The Sky, From A Distance, A Life On Earth and Are We Nearly There Yet. Peter’s performance of Advance Australia Fair at the Bledisloe prompted Wallaby captain, John Eales to comment “It was the best rendition of our Anthem I have ever heard”.

Peter's career has evolved with his creation of Kookaburra, Australia's first and only national musical theatre company who's goal it is to be a world leading producer, developer and advocate of musical theatre in Australia. Peter has produced Pippen, Company, Up Close and Musical, An Audience With Sondheim and this year will produce Tell Me On A Sunday and Little Women for Kookaburra.

In October this year Peter will perform in the STC’s production of the Convicts Opera and will tour with the show to the U.K.
