Angela Toohey

ANGELA TOOHEY is one of Australia’s leading ladies of the musical stage. Best known for her uncanny portrayal of Liza Minnelli in the huge hit show ‘THE BOY FROM OZ’, both the original starring Todd McKenney and more recently with Hugh Jackman. In 2000 Angela received the Mo Award for ‘Best Supporting Musical Theatre Performer Of The Year’. Angela also enjoyed great success with the Richard Wherrett’s production of ‘CABARET’ in which she played the lead role of Sally Bowles. Angela completed the 2002 Melbourne season of the critically acclaimed musical ‘THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK’ in which she performed one of the title roles, Alexandra and more recently performed the role of Tanya in the hugely successful ‘MAMMA MIA’.
Other title roles include Rita in ‘EDUCATING RITA’ for The Ensemble Theatre, Little Voice in the Sydney Theatre Company’s productions of ‘THE RISE AND FALL OF LITTLE VOICE’. As Little Voice, Angela performed vocal impersonations of Judy Garland, Shirley Bassey, Marilyn Monroe, Billy Holiday, Edith Piaf and others. The production broke box office records and earnt Angela enormous critical acclaim. Other productions include, for the Griffin Theatre Company, Away, for the Q Theatre, When They Send Me Three And Fourpence, Baby, The Sentimental Bloke and Chair In The Landscape. For the Sydney Theatre Company, Miracle City and Merrily We Roll Along and for the Independent Theatre’s Rosie The Musical in which she played Naomi opposite Geraldine Turner.
Angela has been involved in corporate performances, in the musical cabaret, ‘BROADWAY BABES’ with internationally acclaimed flautist Jane Rutter and the 2005 NSW Premier’s concert. In 2006 she headlined in ‘BROADWAY DIVAS’ at the Twilight At Taronga concert series, she toured with Boy From Oz and she will star in QPAC’s production of Women In Voice in November 2006.
